Pre-Apprenticeship

Pre-Apprenticeship

  • What is Pre-Apprenticeship?
The ABC of Iowa Apprenticeship & Training Trust Pre-Apprenticeship Program provides High-School students the opportunity to explore different careers in the construction industry. The program awards credit for the classes they take and successfully complete after graduation (must go to work for an ABC of Iowa member to receive the credit.)
  • Benefits
Explore and learn about different trades, provide real-world training in a supervised environment, gain higher graduation rates for pre-apprenticeship students, quality classroom and hands-on training through the NCCER Curriculum.

Students can receive post-secondary credit for training completed in the Pre-Apprenticeship program.
  • Getting Started
There’s no need to re-invent the wheel. Pre-Apprenticeship training can be incorporated into existing Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes at your school such as Basic Electricity or Building Trades. All that’s needed to get started is to adopt the NCCER Curriculum and have your teacher(s) certified to teach the curriculum. Training for teachers can be completed in as little as three-four hours.
  • Classroom Training
The Pre-Apprenticeship program is designed to offer Level 1 of a chosen trade such as electrical or carpentry during one-two years of high school.  All Level 1 Curriculum includes approximately 72.5 of Core Curriculum Training and the Level 1 trade book. The Core Curriculum and the Level 1 training must be successfully completed in order for a student to receive credit.
